Silent Planet vocalist Garrett Russell has shared footage of himself being hit in the head by a drone at this past Thursday’s (June 18th) ‘Summer Punch‘ festival in Warsaw, Poland. As seen in the below video, the drone actually got stuck in Russell‘s hair, leading to some minor complications as he fought to untangle it. Russell said of the incident yesterday, June 19th:
“took a drone to the dome in Warsaw. was raW
today we are driving through Ukraine en route to Kyiv.
perhaps it’s fitting this happened right after we played ‘Panopticon‘ and yelled a bunch of words about mass surveillance, ai… but sometimes you just break a couple lenses in the panopticon and keep moving. a fistful of hair (and irony) later, i give you this cinematic masterpiece by @dontshootskrlx
my bandmates and crew are the most badass n talented humans on this planet. it’s a gift to share these moments where we pull each other (literally) thru time
anyways… Ukraine will be free and it’s up to us to cocreate a better future . see you there
my only seraphim”
Upon eventually freeing the drone from his hair, Russell smashed it onstage and threw it out into the audience, complete with a wad of his hair still stuck in its propellers. As a politically-minded outfit, Silent Planet are set to perform a pair of shows in Ukraine this week, making them one of the rare few Western bands to do so since Russia invaded the country in 2022, leading to the ongoing war in the region. Those dates include:
06/20 Kyiv, UKR – Atlas Club
06/21 Lviv, UKR – Festrepublic Club
