With the countdown timer on their cryptic website having ended today, June 09th, progressive rockers The Mars Volta have unveiled an interesting new interactive project. Diehard fans have dug deep into that site, which is currently being hosted over at ublsl.themarsvolta.com. The general consensus is that the band are preparing a live album for their latest record, 2025’s “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacio“.
The Mars Volta toured extensively on that outing last year, performing it in full throughout their touring cycle, which included an arena tour with Deftones and more. While that album leaked out ahead of even being announced, and was eventually officially released by the band with little fanfare on their part, it would appear this new website and apparent live release aims to breathe some new life into it.
To that end, the band are seemingly currently allowing fans to vote for which live performances will make the cut for that rumored live record, providing audio previews of select live performances from it. In a bid to perhaps limit fans from merely voting for their hometown shows, there’s a bit of a twist in the enigmatic symbology used to represent the various cities at play. However, fans seem confident in having already deciphered that.
