Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer has a new instrumental solo album titled “The Weather Channel” headed for a July 17th release on Org Music. While Bad Brains initially came to fame with their revered brand of hardcore punk, further expansions to their sonic palette included the implementation of dub and reggae elements. This new album is expected to encompass those facets of Jenifer‘s catalog, but appears to also hone in primarily on an often overlooked trait of his musical output: jazz.
Guest performers include esteemed keyboardist John Medeski, jazz fusion, etc. drummer Ben Perowsky, guitarist/singer, etc. Karma “Chogyi” Marco, jazz fusion drummer Jack DeJohnette, late jazz pianist/vibraphonist Karl Berger and more. A reimagined version of the 1986 Bad Brains track “Sacred Love” leads this record , and is now streaming below under the title of “Sacred Love II“.
A 7″ for that song is also now available and is backed with “F.A.L.S.“, a new track form Jenifer‘s punk group Palm Beach. The track listing for the upcoming album will also include another reworked Bad Brains favorite in “Reignition“.
