Last week saw Breaking Benjamin drop a somewhat cryptic tease of “Something Wicked” being in store for this weekend. While Ray Bradbury fans were ultimately out of luck, the multi-platinum hard rockers did indeed conclude their cryptic countdown timer, albeit without a digital payoff. Instead the big reveal ended up aligning with the band’s set yesterday, May 09th, at the annual ‘Welcome To Rockville‘ festival in Daytona Beach, FL.
As you can take in via the below fan-filmed footage, the rock radio mainstays debuted a brand new song titled “Something Wicked” during that set. This live debut broke protocol for the group, who have thus far preferred to keep new songs off the stage until they’re out in the hands of fans. That said, a studio version of the song is on the way with a pre-save available via breakingbenjamin.lnk.to/SomethingWicked.
Tonight’s set also served up another debut in the form of the show being the group’s first with their new drummer Brian Medeiros (Ex-RED/Otherwise, etc.). Medeiros takes over from Asking Alexandria‘s James Cassells, who stepped in last year for a temporary stint behind the drum kit. Breaking Benjamin said collectively of this latest change in personnel:
“We want to thank James for helping us in a time of need last year, a legend in the making! We welcome Brian to the stage with us moving forward on the road. We will see you tomorrow Rockville.”
Outside of the above-mentioned new track and a recurring appearance from Halo‘s Master Chief, last night’s set also saw Breaking Benjamin reunite with Flyleaf‘s Lacey Sturm for a performance of their past collaborative single “Dear Agony“.
