Limp Bizkit vocalist Fred Durst has revealed he has some ideas in the works for a potential ‘gathering’ for artists who regularly find themselves excluded from mainstream festivals and awards accolades. The nü-metal icon tipped his hand while replying to a recent post on X from diamond-certified rapper Lil Wayne.
The latter was lamenting repeatedly being snubbed by events like ‘Coachella‘ and more, while being thankful to the fans that do hold him in high regard. Wayne stated on X on April 17th:
“It’s truly a humbling experience when events like Coachella & the Grammys come around & like clockwork,I’m uninvited & uninvolved. I appreciate my position or space I hold in ya heart & mind if so bc you’re the humbling experience that’s timeless & 4dat I thk u. Iaintshitwithoutu”
His post led Durst to directly reply:
“Let’s start our own experience gathering and our own acknowledgment event to welcome all of the uninvited – i’ve got a couple ideas i’ve been working on for quite some while now – happy to elaborate if ever interested – sending good vibes”
Of course, it’s somewhat ironic that Durst‘s post arrives days after Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer recently said he’s been vocal about resurrecting ‘Family Values‘. That late 90s/early 00s run ambitiously paired nü-metal artists with established rap artists for some memorable shows.
Durst‘s potential plans also have quite a precedent, given that the ‘Ozzfest‘touring festival originally spawned from a similar situation, after ‘Lollapalooza‘ spurned Ozzy Osbourne, telling him he wasn’t “relevant” enough for the fest. That led his wife/manager to create ‘Ozzfest‘, which for a considerable run during the 90s and early 00s served as one of the must see events for metalheads each summer. After nearly a decade-long absence, Sharon has plans to resurrect that festival in 2027.
Given Durst‘s latest comments, Limp Bizkit‘s past ‘Loserville‘ tours, which included artists such as Corey Feldman, Riff Raff and more who haven’t exactly been embraced by the mainstream in recent years, could almost be seen as Durst dipping his toes in the water for what may yet come.
