Inclusion on that list indicates 1 billion streams of a single song on the popular digital service provider. Recent weeks have seen Three Days Grace‘s “Animal I Have Become“, Foo Fighters‘ “The Pretender“, Soundgarden‘s “Black Hole Sun“, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Dani California“, System Of A Down‘s “Lonely Day” and Disturbed‘s cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence” all cross the 1 billion plays threshold.
Of those songs, Disturbed‘s aforementioned rendition holds the most hardware in the United States, having attained 9x multi-platinum status. Three Days Grace‘s “Animal I Have Become” is close behind with 8x platinum status. Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ “Dani California” sits at 5x platinum, Foo Fighters‘ “The Pretender” is 2x platinum, while System Of A Down‘s “Lonely Day” is platinum.
One would assume that Soundgarden‘s catalog is in need of an accounting update by the RIAA, as the aforementioned 90s hit from the grunge legends has yet to land any official certification yet. Out of this latest crop, funk rock icons Red Hot Chili Peppers stand with the most inclusions in the Billions Club, with this latest track being their seventh song to hit that milestone.
