Tool‘s relatively massive setlist shakeup continued during today’s (November 23rd) second stop of their New Zealand tour. After thrilling fans at the Spark Arena in Auckland, NZ this weekend with the first live performance of “Crawl Away” since 1998, and the first live airings of “H.” and “Disposition” since 2002, the alternative metal juggernauts once again mixed things up with the return another early favorite.
“Prison Sex“, the second single to be launched from the storied band’s 3x platinum debut album “Undertow“, made it back into set for the first time since April of 2002. Also making a round trip was the first airing of the “10,000 Days” cut “Intension“, which was last played back in March of 2014. Further sweetening the pot was the live debut of the “Fear Inoculum” cut, “Mockingbeat“.
This is all welcome news to diehard fans of the band, who given the group’s lengthy touring cycles, have often complained of setlist fatigue. Gripes about the latter reached a fever pitch earlier this year, with threats of a class action lawsuit emerging after some were underwhelmed by the band’s pair of performances at the first-ever ‘Tool Live In The Sand‘ festival.
Last night’s setlist ran as follows:
“Fear Inoculum“
“The Grudge“
“Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)“
“Rosetta Stoned“
“Intension“
“Right In Two“
“Pneuma“
“Prison Sex“
“H.“
“Sweat“
Encore:
“Mockingbeat“
“Hand Of Doom” (Black Sabbath cover)
“Invincible“
“Vicarious“
Fan-filmed footage of the first performance of “Prison Sex” in 22 years can be seen below. These latest additions to the setlist certainly have reinvigorated the group’s fanbase, leading to more anticipation for the Tool‘s next round of touring.
