Persefone have revealed a December 05th release on Napalm Records for their new live album, “Live In Andorra“. The progressive death metal unit paired with the Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra for the included live orchestral performance. That set went down back in May of 2024 at the National Auditorium in Ordino, Andorra.
The prestigious one-off collaborative live pairing transpired came about in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary, while also marking their first show back in their home country in a decade. For now, the sonically ramped up rendition of “Living Waves” has just been served up as the first taste of that 14-song live effort.
While Cynic vocalist/vocalist Paul Masvidal wasn’t present to reprise his parts from the studio version of that song, his contributions were played via backing tracks during this special live airing. Persefone elaborated on including that track in the set and what it means to me, offering:
“‘Living Waves‘ has to be one of the most important songs in our catalog. At least, that’s what we feel from the crowd every time we perform it live. Maybe it’s because we had the chance to work with Paul Masvidal, one of our biggest inspirations in music. Maybe it’s because of the deep meaning of the lyrics, or just because it has its own particular energy. This performance really makes the song shine, and it was a no-brainer for us to share it with everyone as one of the singles for the release.”
As for the experience of performing the set with an orchestra, the band collectively shared:
“It is not everyday that you can celebrate the history of your band with such a unique set of circumstances. Playing at home after so many years, in front of our people, at the National Hall, with the National Orchestra, was something we never imagined would even be a possibility. But when the opportunity appeared, we just couldn’t say no, and we knew we wanted to have this whole experience immortalized for everyone to take part in it. This show is a way of coming full circle, from a crappy rehearsal room and our first shows in clubs, to being able to perform at such an iconic place in our country.
