It’s been a chaotic few years for drummers in the metal world and tonight’s (October 04th) development continues that trend. Greyson Nekrutman has officially signed on to play with Trivium, having hit the stage with them tonight. Nekrutman, who has most recently been playing with Sepultura, joins the band after yesterday’s announcement that Alex Bent was departing Trivium. Nekrutman himself was part of a somewhat infamous three-way drummer swap a year or two back.
While he had previously been behind the kit for Suicidal Tendencies, Slipknot would go on to poach drummer Eloy Casagrande from Sepultura. As such, Nekrutman would go on to join Sepultura for their ongoing farewell touring, while ex-Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg went on to take over Nekrutman‘s spot in Suicidal Tendencies.
Trivium said in a statement tonight after their first show with Nekrutman:
“Trivium welcomes @greyson_nekrutman on the drums.
Catch him at @aftershockfestival & on our Fall Tour with @jinjer_official & @heriotmetal”
In a separate comment, Trivium vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy thanked Sepultura for sharing their drummer with him, offering:
“Thanks for everything @greyson_nekrutman !! Thank you @sepultura for letting us hang with your phenom of a drummer. We played slave new world in your honor!!! @andreaskisser @derrickgreenofficial @pauloxistoofficial”
Trivium played their first show with Nekrutman behind the kit tonight at the ‘Aftershock‘ festival in Sacramento, CA. True to Heafy‘s word, the band dusted off their cover of Sepultura‘s “Slave New World” for the first time since 2010 during that set.
