Bass-centric avant-garde metal outfit Flagman have issued “The Punishment Committee” as the first single from their newly announced EP, “Before The Blast“. Vocalist/bassist Sam Stewart shared:
“This EP is the first that I’ve written and recorded almost exclusively myself so a lot of it was born out of me messing around with new gear and new software for the first time. I was listening to a lot of Ministry and Nailbomb and industrial music – checking out other artists that head up a ‘band,’ but it’s really just one or two people creating everything in the studio.
I threw myself into the process, and this is what came out the other side. I wanted something really aggressive and immediate, both musically and lyrically. I had the phrase ‘I’ll show you something you won’t ever forget’ rattling around in my head, and it felt like a perfect fit for the song’s vibe.
Lyrically, it was inspired by a lot of personal upheaval in my life that also felt like it was reflected in the world, both presently and in the past. This song and EP are a result of that experimentation and soldiering forward in the face of an uncertain future, something that we all come up against, and really something that you’re always facing – any plans or ideas of the future you might have are really just fantasies that we hang our hopes on.”
A video for that track has been uploaded below. “Before The Blast” will be out October 17th.
