Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders is the latest victim of Drumeo‘s long-running ‘For The First Time’ series. In the below episode, the British indie rock percussionist was put to the test of coming up with his own drum parts for “Alleviate” from Norwegian prog rockers Leprous.

The latter band weren’t the first cover choice, after initially suggested tracks from the likes of Evanescence, Disturbed and a number of others didn’t meet the criteria. The musician in the hot seat on the series needs to be unfamiliar with the track, as they are presented with a drumless version of the song.

As such, Helders was challenged to create his own parts for “Alleviate“, you can see what he came up with below. Leprous was a synergistic choice, given that the band recently covered A-ha from the Drumeo-affiliated Musora.
