Melodic death metal supergroup The Halo Effect have unveiled their cover of W.A.S.P.‘s 1984 track “I Wanna Be Somebody“. The Halo Effect, who are comprised of various alumni of In Flames and more, will have that rendition featured on their new covers EP, “We Are Shadows“. Nuclear Blast have that outing due out November 21st on vinyl and digital formats. Each featured cover choice was selected by a different member of the band.
Guitarist Jesper Strömblad picked this particular song to cover and had the following to say of what it meant to him:
“W.A.S.P.’s aggressive sound and eccentric stage presence has always been fun. The shock of songs like ‘I Fuck Like a Beast’ and fun anthems like ‘I Wanna Be Somebody,’ and ‘L.O.V.E. Machine,’ are powerful and heavy. Extreme and dramatic, controversial and fun, W.A.S.P.’s ‘I Wanna Be Somebody’, off their debut album, was my first introduction into the band.”
“We Are Shadows” track listing:
01 – “How The Gods Kill” (Danzig cover)
02 – “If You Were Here” (Kent cover)
03 – “I Wanna Be Somebody” (W.A.S.P. cover)
04 – “Dance With The Devil“
05 – “Shoreline“
