Aussie psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard brought out Jello Biafra for a first-time cover of the Dead Kennedys classic “Police Truck” last night. Their collective rendition of that 1980 track condemning police corruption was played during King Gizzard‘s August 15th kickoff date for their three-day ‘Field Of Vision‘ festival at Cottonwood Meadows in Buena Vista, CO.
Professionally shot footage of that rendition can be found below, with the band prefacing the performance by explaining the influence and impact the Dead Kennedys had on King Gizzard early on. That aforementioned fest will conclude on August 17th.
While King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have largely distanced themselves from politics and social commentary, the band did stage a considerable protest against Spotify CEO Daniel EK this summer, pulling their music from the popular streaming service over Ek‘s ties to military tech.
