Silver Lining Music are preparing to release a new tribute to Metallica‘s 1983 debut album “Kill ‘Em All” on November 14th. That set has been dubbed “No Life ‘Til Leather – A Tribute To Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All“. It will feature new and previously unreleased contributions from Diamond Head, Testament, Motörhead, Saxon, ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, Soen and more.
Of course, Metallica‘s decision to cover Diamond Head‘s “Am I Evil?” back in 1984 helped introduce the British heavy metal band to a whole new audience. Diamond Head would go on to return the favor in 2020, taking on the included version of Metallica‘s “No Remorse“.
Meanwhile, one can’t help but feel there’s a bit of shade involved with David Ellefson‘s featured version of “(Anesthesia) – Pulling Teeth“, given his fractured relationship with ex-Metallica member (and Megadeth founder) Dave Mustaine.
Ironically, Ellefson just recently spoke publicly about turning down covering early Metallica output with Mustaine, a move Mustaine apparently intended to do after a royalty dispute with his ex-Metallica bandmates derailed Metallica‘s deluxe release of their “No Life ‘Til Leather” demo.
The Almighty‘s featured cover of “The Four Horsemen” serves as the first single from this compilation, with vocalist/guitarist Ricky Warwick offering:
“‘The Four Horsemen‘ by Metallica got us back into the studio with the original lineup for the first time since 1991… Unbelievable. When the opportunity presented itself, it was really a no brainer. Metallica has been a huge influence for us. It was a bit nerve-wracking because we had not been in the studio for such a long time. We did the whole thing in a day and a half with as much power and passion as you would expect from The Almighty. It is such a powerful track. I think it turned out great, make sure you turn it up really, really loud!”
