Multi-platinum alternative metal oddballs Primus touched down at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA last night (August 06th) with a cadre of special guests in tow. First up, the band were once again joined by their drumming fill-in of choice: Tool‘s Danny Carey.
The acclaimed percussionist has stepped in behind the kit at numerous points for the band, most recently during the band’s time at the ‘Tool Live In The Sand‘ festival earlier this year. He took up behind the kit last night for a performance of the indelible “Pork Soda” single “My Name Is Mud“.
Carey‘s rhythm section counterpart, Tool bassist Justin Chancellor also hit the stage, guesting on the early “Frizzle Fry” staple “Too Many Puppies“, complete with comedian/actor Bill Burr sitting in on guest drums.
That wasn’t the extent of the extra personnel last night however, as garage rocker Ty Segall fronted a cover of Primus‘ rendition of Black Sabbath‘s “N.I.B.” in celebration of the late Ozzy Osbourne, while fellow bass wizard MonoNeon once again doubled up the low end on “Southbound Pachyderm“. ‘South Park‘ co-creator Matt Stone even took to the stage at one point, guesting on a cover of King Crimson‘s “Thela Hun Ginjeet“.
Fan-filmed footage from some of last night’s highlights has since been posted online below. Primus‘ summer tour will conclude this week with a pair of shows at Channel 24 in Sacramento, CA booked for tonight, August 07th, and tomorrow, August 08th.
