Arcadea are back with a follow-up to their 2017 self-titled debut album. That project currently unites Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, alongside synth/guitarist/bassist/vocalist, etc. Core Atoms and newcomer João Nogueira, who contributes additional synth. The synth rock band’s sophomore album “The Exodus Of Gravity” will be out August 22nd on Relapse Records. A press release spelled out the sci-fi concept that drives this new record:
‘Five billion years in the future, Andromeda has merged with the Milky Way. On New Arcadea gravity is failing and only remnants of the 21st century remain: robots, AI, and non-sentient machines. But when strange spores are inhaled, life begins again, and with it, empathy, love, and a new consciousness emerges, born not of man, but of machine.’
A video for the lead single “Fuzzy Planet” was shot with director Bryan Bankovich and is available below. Atoms stated of it:
“It’s about that first fuzzy feeling you get when you fall in love. Our lead character is recognizing that the spore has gotten in them and they’re starting to change. They’re awakening to all the beauty that’s around.”
Dailor added:
“There’s something really hopeful and uplifting about it from a musical aesthetic. The object was to get a little more dancey and a little more fun. As much as we liked how proggy the last Arcadea album was, it reminded me of what I already do in Mastodon. We wanted to explore the idea of doing something different. So, I wanted to really concentrate on groove and dance and embracing the electronic aspect of it.”
The band self-produced this new effort at Mastodon‘s West End Sound studio.
