Given their career paths, one wouldn’t expect that Dave Lombardo and Senen “Sen Dog” Reyes would have crossed paths. After all, Lombardo helped redefine the limits of thrash metal with his legendary run with Slayer, and has since continued to pursue his passion in a variety of other high profile projects. Sen Dog meanwhile blazed a path to multi-platinum success with his weed rap outfit Cypress Hill, in addition to his other pursuits in the metal and rock world.

And yet despite traveling in separate circles, as Lombardo mentions below, not only have the two maintained a 40-year friendship, their respective mothers were friends before that. Speaking on social media this morning (May 19th), Lombardo offered:

“Here we are.. two Cubans that crossed paths in Southgate high school and been friends for over 40 years. Our moms were friends before we met and we lived a couple blocks from each other. He went on to trail blaze the rap industry with Cypress Hill and I with Slayer. Great to finally share the stage with you and all in Cypress Hill in Saint John, New Brunswick. Canada”

As for sharing the stage together, Lombardo sat in on drums with Cypress Hill during this past Saturday’s (May 17th) date of the ‘O Canadabis‘ tour, which finds Cypress Hill out with De La Soul & The Pharcyde. That show was held at the TD Station in Saint John, NB.
