Grunge metal legends Alice In Chains have now scrapped their May touring commitments in light of a “non-life-threatening medical emergency” suffered by their drummer Sean Kinney yesterday, May 08th. Just ahead of their planned show in Uncasville, CT last night, the band revealed that Kinney became sidelined by the undisclosed issue shortly after soundchecking for the show. That statement read as follows:

“After our soundcheck this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Sean experienced a non-life-threatening medical emergency. We unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Refunds are available at the point of purchase.”

In a new follow-up statement issued today, the group offered the following regarding his condition and their subsequent change in plans:

“AFTER CAREFUL CONSIDERATION AND FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, WE HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO CANCEL OUR UPCOMING FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES AND THE ALICE IN CHAINS HEADLINE SHOWS.

WHILE WE WERE ALL EAGER TO RETURN TO THE STAGE, SEAN‘S HEALTH IS OUR TOP PRIORITY AT THIS MOMENT. ALTHOUGH THE ISSUE REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, HIS LONG-TERM PROGNOSIS IS POSITIVE.

WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORT DURING THIS TIME.

ALICE IN CHAINS

The affected shows include:

05/10 Camden, NJ – MMR*B*Q
05/11 Columbus, OH – Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival
05/13 Nashville, TN – The Pinnacle (feat. Chained Saint)
05/15 Dothan, AL – Dothan Civic Center (feat. Chained Saint)
05/16 Daytona Beach, FL – Welcome To Rockville
05/17 Ocean City, MD – Boardwalk Rock

In an ironic case of lightning striking twice, the band’s newly vacated spot on the above-mentioned ‘Boardwalk Rock‘ festival came about in light of health concerns regarding Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil. The aforementioned multi-platinum glam metallers were first booked for that festival, but were forced to drop off in April, leading Alice In Chains to assume their spot.
