Metallica have shared the first glimpse of an upcoming documentary film shining a light on the connection the reigning thrash metal kings hold with their fans. The band once again worked with director Jonas Åkerlund (‘Lords Of Chaos‘, ‘Polar‘) for this feature, which has been christened ‘Metallica Saved My Life‘. The film focuses on fans of the group and what Metallica and their music has meant to them over the past four decades.

Advance screenings of the not-yet completed feature will be taking place throughout this spring in multiple cities. A list of participating theaters is available now via fathomentertainment.com. Those looking to attend a screening won’t have access to their smartphone however, as the following caveat was provided:

‘This is a phone-free event. We want to keep the experience special and spoiler-free for fans around the world. The team at the theatre will provide you with a Yondr pouch at the screening—you’ll keep your phone, but it’ll be locked until you exit. No distractions—just you, the film, and what we hope you find as an unforgettable experience.’

The finished film is expected to open later in the year.
