The Smashing Pumpkins linchpin Billy Corgan has some solo touring planned for the summer via his ‘Billy Corgan And The Machines Of God venture. In a weird twist however, this new trek will find Corgan performing select material from The Smashing Pumpkins catalog.
Current The Smashing Pumpkins touring guitarist Kiki Wong will be joining Corgan on this run, with drummer Jake Hayden (Dorothy, etc.) and bassist Kid Tigrrr (Jenna Fournier) completing the lineup.
The trek has been dubbed ‘A Return To Zero‘, with the emphasis being placed on a return to a quartet configuration for the songs. The setlists for this run will draw from the group’s diamond-certified alternative rock landmark double album “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness“, as well the gold-certified “Machina/The Machines Of God” and its follow-up, “Machina II/The Friends & Enemies Of Modern Music“. Songs from The Smashing Pumpkins‘ latest release, “Aghori Mhori Mei” will also make its way into the set.
“Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” will turn 30 on October 24th. “Machina” turned 20 on February ’29th’, while its follow-up will hit that anniversary on September 05th. In celebration of that, both “Machina” albums have been remixed and remastered and combined into an 80-song box set.
A whopping 32 bonus tracks consisting of demos, outtakes and live performances will be appearing on that set, which unites the aforementioned two records for the first time. That boxset will be made available exclusively through Corgan‘s Madame Zuzu’s tea shop in Highland Park, IL.
Additionally, a vinyl reissue of “Machina/The Machines Of God” will be made available on August 22nd, with pre-orders to launch on June 27th. Tickets for Corgan‘s above mentioned solo touring will be available tomorrow, April 01st, at 10:00am local time. The general onsale will launch this Friday, April 04th at 10:00am.
As previously reported, Corgan will also be giving “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” the opera treatment this November, for a series of special shows at the Lyric Opera Of Chicago.
