If things go according to plan, Animals As Leaders could be sitting on their sixth studio album before the year’s end. The instrumental progressive metal band’s guitarist Tosin Abasi was interviewed by Guitar World in late January around the annual NAMM show in Anaheim, CA. That discussion was recently published online and found Abasi revealing that the group were about to start pre-production for their next opus. He offered the following timeline for that effort:
“We are about to begin pre-production on an album. We do have some touring – we’re headed to Europe in a few weeks – but I want to spend a portion of this year writing the record. In a perfect world, it’ll be written and recorded by the end of this year.”
The European tour he mentioned is now down to its final three strops, which should give the band free reign to soon divert their focus to the album. When asked later if he was looking to implement any new techniques on the record, Abasi responded:
“You know, it’s funny. I’m trying to use the techniques that I have in more diverse ways, because at a point, it’s about how effectively you’re using what you already know, as opposed to thinking you’ve got to add more novel stuff. That’s kind of where I’m at right now.”
