A vocal contingent of fans of progressive alternative metal stars Tool have taken to the internet to criticize the band’s setlist choices at their first-ever ‘Tool Live In The Sand‘ destination festival in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The revered band headlined the first two nights of that festival this weekend, with opening performances from Coheed And Cambria, Primus and more. While the novelty of various Tool-related events offered by the festival, and the chance to catch the band performing on a picturesque beach surely sweetened the pot, the additional cost of travel and lodging associated with the tropical setting did ensure a significant price tag for those lucky enough to attend the sold out event.
Given the significance of the performance, some fans expected the band to pull out all the stops and add some curveballs or rarities into their setlist amidst the back-to-back performances, but that didn’t happen.
However, what some fans have found the most egregious is the group’s decision to perform four of the same songs at both shows. As you can see by the setlists below (per setlist.fm,) “Fear Inoculum“, “Rosetta Stoned“, “Pneuma” and “Jambi” were played both nights.
Friday, March 07th:
“Stinkfist”
“Fear Inoculum”
“Rosetta Stoned”
“Pneuma”
“Jambi”
“Schism”
“The Grudge”
“The Flood”
“Invincible”
“Vicarious” (first time since 2020)
Saturday, March 08th:
“Fear Inoculum”
“Ænema”
“Rosetta Stoned”
“Pneuma”
“Jambi”
“Descending”
“Chocolate Chip Trip”
“Intolerance”
“Swamp Song”
