Per reporting from Billboard‘s Boxscore, thrash metal titans Metallica‘s live activities in 2024 put them as the 5th highest grossing rock tour of the year. Per Billboard, This latest leg of their ‘M72 World Tour‘ grossed an estimated $175.2 million across 24 shows. 1.5 million tickets were sold for that trek.
Metallica‘s impressive numbers also landed them at #9 on the on the top 10 worldwide touring artists of 2024 from Pollstar. Per Pollstar’s numbers, the celebrated metal veterans grossed an estimated $179,373,637 from those 24 reported shows. The average gross from each date was an estimated $7,479,043 per show, with 1,500,311 tickets sold at an average price point of $119.64.
If you’re curious, Coldplay topped Billboard‘s top rock tour list with an estimated gross of $400.9 million across 51 shows. Taylor Swift unsurprisingly took home the #1 tour overall, grossing an estimated $1,043,421,552 from 80 shows, for which she sold 5,210,054 tickets.
