The surviving members of the final lineup of multi-platinum grunge outfit Soundgarden reunited onstage last night, December 14th. The band’s guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist/vocalist Ben Shepherd & drummer/vocalist Matt Cameron were joined by Shaina Shepherd in place of their late frontman/guitarist Chris Cornell.
This abbreviated reunion came about under their previously used anagram moniker of Nudedragons, which they used back in 2010 for their then first live show in 13 years. Like that performance, this latest return to the stage also took place at The Showbox in Seattle, WA. However, last night’s performance was part of a benefit show, raising funds for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. You can find out more about that cause via smoochforkids.com.
Guns N’ Roses bassist/vocalist Duff McKagan, Sebadoh and Doug Martsch were also on the bill for the concert. According to those in attendance, McKagan helped Soundgarden close out the set on vocals for two songs, including a cover of MC5‘s “Kick Out The Jams‘. The setlist for the night is said to have run as follows:
“Hunted Down”
“Outshined”
“Flower”
“Kickstand” (feat. Duff McKagan)
“Kick Out The Jams” (MC5 cover) (feat. Duff McKagan)
Initial fan-filmed footage from the set has been shared online below. More will be added as it becomes available. Since the untimely passing of Cornell back in 2017, Soundgarden‘s members have performed with several female vocalists, including Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless & Brandi Carlile, as well as with members of the grunge supergroup 3rd Secret.
