Nine Inch Nails' Score Is A Perfect Fit For The Industrial & Grittier Tone Of 'Tron: Ares' Says Film's Director

Outside of a grand reveal this past summer, there hasn’t been too much offered up yet about Nine Inch Nails‘ score to the upcoming third entry in the ‘Tron‘ film franchise, ‘Tron: Ares‘. Jeff Bridges will be back for that new instalment in the series, with Jared Leto (also of 30 Seconds To Mars), Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson and more starring.

Nine Inch Nails‘ core duo of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have established themselves as celebrated composers for visual works in recent years, having taken home prizes from the Oscars, GRAMMYS, Emmy Awards and more for their efforts. However, unlike those projects, their work on this new film is being conducted under the banner of their Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted outfit Nine Inch Nails.

Given the band’s relative absence from the spotlight and the dearth of new creative output from them for the past four years, this project certainly has fans of the celebrated industrial legends intrigued.

While 2010’s ‘Tron: Legacy‘ featured music composed by Daft Punk, the involvement of new material from Nine Inch Nails for this film sets an altogether different tone. The film’s director Joachim Rønning recently spoke on what that means for the film itself, telling Empire:

“With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this instalment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial. It’s been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new Tron world that we are creating.”

As for the plot, the film is expected to reverse the premises of the first two films, this time with a ‘Program’ from the film, ‘Ares‘ (Jared Leto), being sent into the real world, rather than a human being sent into The Grid.
