Huntsmen‘s cover of Jethro Tull‘s “Mother Goose” saw its online debut today, September 24th. The doom metal outfit took to covering that track for one of two upcoming tribute albums to the aforementioned multi-platinum 1960s progressive rock veterans being put together by Magnetic Eye Records.

This rendition will appear on a tribute to Jethro Tull‘s fourth studio album, 1971’s 3x multi-platinum “Aqualung“. The track listing for that effort, “Aqualung Redux“, will run as follows:

01 – Chris Goss & Alain Johannes – “Aqualung
02 – The Well – “Cross-Eyed Mary
03 – Osi And The Jupiter – “Cheap Day Return
04 – Huntsmen – “Mother Goose
05 – The Otolith – “Wond’ring Aloud
06 – Motorpsycho – “Up To Me
07 – Big Scenic Nowhere – “My God
08 – Saturna – “Hymn 43
09 – Mammoth Volume – “Slipstream
10 – The Sword – “Locomotive Breath
11 – Domkraft & Arvid Hällagård – “Wind-Up

Huntsmen guitarist/vocalist Chris Kang commented of their involvement:

“Admittedly, we aren’t necessarily massive Jethro Tull fans but had wanted to work with Magnetic Eye for a long time, so when this invitation came up, we were like… okay, what the hell do we do with this?

Figuring out how to approach it was seriously a fun, happy, and rewarding challenge, and we decided to lean into two main things remarkable about ‘Mother Goose‘: the folk element and the abstract insanity of the lyrics. We had a lot of fun trying to sing those crazy lyrics as dead-seriously as possible, as if they were totally normal things to say, like: ‘and the chicken-fancier came to play!’.

And of course adding a bunch of heaviness and noise was also very entertaining. By the end, we just had a shit ton of fun cutting loose and making it as weird and heavy as we could, and we all ended up feeling super proud of our contribution.”

In addition to this tribute to “Aqualung“, Magnetic Eye Records are also preparing another set dubbed “Best Of Jethro Tull Redux“. The track listing for it will run as follows:

01 – Mr Bison – “Reasons For Waiting
02 – Sweat – “Back To The Family
03 – Hashtronaut – “Bungle In The Jungle
04 – Elephant Tree – “We Used To Know
05 – The Golden Grass – “The Teacher
06 – Sergeant Thunderhoof – “Son
07 – Oceanlord – “Sweet Dream
08 – Lowrider/Elephant Tree – “Nothing To Say

Both of those albums were successfully crowdfunded and are expected out on December 06th. Pre-orders for them can be obtained via lnk.spkr.media/jethrotull-redux.
