Phil Labonte, vocalist for platinum-certified metalcore band All That Remains, has maintained a successful side career as a political commentator with his views tending to lean towards libertarian/right-wing ideals.
His latest venture is an extension of that, having penned a new Op-ed published by Fox News. In it, he discusses why he feels that society has been ‘failing men and boys.’ While issues with a growing lack of traditional father figures, a declining enrollment in higher education, mental health issues and more are mentioned among his piece, Labonte also offered the following passage:
“…It’s not just about absent fathers. We’re also seeing fewer and fewer spaces that exist exclusively for men and boys to connect with each other. This trend is problematic for several reasons.
First, it reflects the lack of value we place on men – which can be viewed as an outright hostility to men and boys by society. Second, because of that lack of value we place on men, they no longer feel their own value in society and choose to opt out altogether.”
