British industrial rockers Pitchshifter are preparing to release the original version of their 1997 single “Genius” on 12″ vinyl. A demo of that track first saw a release on the ‘Test Drive 5‘ video game and the ‘Mortal Kombat: Annihilation‘ soundtrack, later appearing on the band’s own 1998 outing “www.pitchshifter.com“.
However, the version of it the majority of the public heard was missing a pre-chorus element the group had originally intended for the song. The decision was made to cut that section during the mixing process, with it having now newly been restored for an upcoming 12” release.
This new ‘correct’ version of the single will be released as “[NOS] Genius” on vinyl amid the band’s upcoming November UK tour, following a successful Kickstarer campaign. That campaign also provides history of the track and the missing line of “If dysfunction is our function, and if we learn by our mistakes, then I must be some kind of Genius.”
Dubbed “[NOS] Genius“, this version of the outing will meet a digital release sometime in 2025.
