Outside of their various charitable pursuits and their penchant for helping out local food banks in each town they play in, Metallica have also been changing the lives of the next generation of metalheads for the better. Per the below videos, a young fan was able to experience a live show from the thrash metal juggernauts in a way few have ever.
During the group’s August 11th performance at the Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, drummer Lars Ulrich welcomed a 10-year-old aspiring metal guitarist, Russell up onstage, allowing him to sit on a floor tom during the band’s performance of their 1991 gold single “The Unforgiven“. That same show also saw the band dedicate “Inamorata” to an eight-year-old fan via the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Fast-forward a few weeks later and Metallica vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield allowed a 13-year-old fan in the crowd at the band’s August 23rd show in Edmonton, Alberta the opportunity to strum his guitar mid-show. Ulrich later gifted said youngster one of his drumsticks as well, with his friend also receiving a drum stick of his own at the band’s follow-up Edmonton show on the 25th.
Unfortunately, the 23rd show was a bittersweet experience, as one of the group’s fans passed away in the snake pit during the concert. The group paid tribute to him online yesterday.
