A legal dispute has erupted between current and former members of masked nü-metal/alternative metal outfit Mushroomhead. Vocalist Jeffrey “Nothing” Hatrix, who performed with the band from 1993 through to 2018, has filed suit against fellow co-founder, drummer, etc. Steve “Skinny” Felton and the band’s associated Filthy Hands Company business. Hatrix alleges Felton and by extension the aforementioned company have shorted him on royalties for several years now. The group themselves are not named in the suit.
Cleveland.com report that the suit was filed in a federal court in Cleveland earlier this week. Hatrix is described in the suit as holding writing credits on 148 of the band’s songs. In addition to claiming that he hasn’t received royalties for several years, he also alleges that Felton had been engaging in some unscrupulous tactics.
Among the activities alleged are Felton paying himself off twice under two names. The suit also put forth claims that Felton had further been pocketing money under the guise of an “unknown” publicist and writer alleged to have been employed.
Hatrix is seeking at least $3.5 million via the suit, and is apparently also seeking access to the band’s accounting. The dispute has also taken another twist, as it appears the group let their trademark on their long-used double X logo lapse, with Hatrix filing a trademark application for it on August 01st of this year. Thus far, he has yet to be granted it.
The news emerges as Mushroomhead are out touring on the back of their newly released album “Call The Devil“, which saw a release last week.
