Opeth‘s fourteenth studio album is in the can, but the Swedish death metal turned prog rock band aren’t yet ready to talk too much about it. Earlier this year it was revealed that Ian Anderson, vocalist/flautist, etc. of prog legends Jethro Tull will be appearing on around 3-4 tracks from that effort.

Opeth vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt remained tight-lipped on that record in a new interview with Classic Rock, but he did discuss some side projects he also has in the works. Among them is the score to a film which is not yet at liberty to reveal.

He was also asked about the prospect of another possible album from Storm Corrosion, his side project with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. Speaking on the possibility of that, he offered:

“Me and Steve have been talking about that. I went to see Steven in London to talk and to drink [laughs]. There is a reissue of that album coming out, and Steven has done a new Atmos mix. So I pitched the idea of a possible next record from Storm Corrosion. He didn’t really buy into my suggestion. That’s a shame.”

When asked why Wilson was reluctant, Åkerfeldt replied:

Steve doesn’t want to send music [over the internet]. He prefers us to make it together in the same room. But I’ll bring it up again, and I’m sure we’ll do something new. Should it happen, I would like us to do a requiem, something completely overblown.”

Exact details for the planned reissue of Storm Corrosion‘s sole 2012 self-titled album remain under wraps for now.
