Uncured Seem To Think They've Just Invented Nü-Metalcore

Uncured have issued a video for a new song of theirs titled “Mask Of Sanity“. That track will eventually appear on the group’s EP “Warpath“, which is expected out in 2025. It finds the NYC-based band moving away from their more technical and progressive metal/rock tendencies, instead adopting elements of nü-metalcore.

Thanks to an accompanying press release, it seems the group may have also waded into their very own Atreyu moment however. While the nü-metalcore subgenre began to germinate well over a decade ago and was popularized by groups like Sworn In, Ocean Grove, Sylar, Cane Hill and many more, Uncured may now be claiming to be pioneers in the field.

A press release for Uncured‘s aforementioned new single seems to be oblivious of the genre’s roots, offering:

‘Musicians paying homage to their influences is a story that has been around for decades. Every so often, an artist combines their influences and creates a new genre that defines their specific art and vision. This is what Uncured – the New Jersey quartet comprised of Rex Cox [vocals], Zak Cox [guitars], “King ZZachary King [drums], and Betto Andrade [bass] – have created with a genre they have affectionately dubbed ‘Nu Metalcore’.’

Uncured themselves stated of that:

“We describe our sound as ‘Nu Metalcore’. It combines the raw energy, power and aggression of 2000s metal with the huge hooks, catchy choruses and brutal breakdowns of today’s metal scene to deliver an intense, new experience.”

Producer David Bendeth (Bring Me The Horizon, I Prevail) worked with the group on their forthcoming EP, which will run as follows:

01 – “Mask Of Sanity
02 – “Manifesto
03 – “Crucify
04 – “Bleed Me Dry
05 – “Fall In Line
06 – “Perfect Specimen
