Tom Morello, the acclaimed guitarist known for his innovative guitar work in Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and more, has issued his new solo single, “Solider In The Army Of Love“. That familial track is a collaboration with his teenage son, Roman, who also co-wrote the song with him.
This cut is the first off of an upcoming solo album Tom has planned. As opposed to his recent solo output, he described this forthcoming outing as being, “my first ever full length solo rock album.”
Per a recent conversation with Spin, his new album is halfway done. He has been roadtesting several songs in advance on amid his ongoing European/UK tour however, including this latest single, as well as “Union Power” and “They Can’t Kill Us All“.
“When you’re in a band, it’s chemistry. You merge yourself into a chemistry to get something you can’t create alone. With this record, the bossy type-A personality has reasserted itself somewhat. At 60 years old, I wanna make the definitive Tom Morello rock album.”
He also spoke of his vision for the record, telling the aforementioned publication, “It’s still shaping up and I have to determine what the final thing will be, but it’s somewhere between like the huge Morellian riffage of Rage and Audioslave and then [Springsteen’s] Darkness on the Edge of Town. Those are kind of the goalposts.”
