Mathcore greats The Dillinger Escape Plan played the first official show of their “Calculating Infinity” 25th anniversary reunion run last night, June 21st. While the band hit the stage for the first time since 2017 at the ‘No Values‘ festival earlier this month, yesterday’s set at the Brooklyn Monarch in Brooklyn, NY marked the first official headlining date on their run celebrating that album’s upcoming milestone.
As you’d expect, the group ran through pretty much the entire album, sans “*#..“, which serving as the opening music over the PA. Rather than a standard playthrough of the album, they instead opted to mix the things up. The setlist according to those in attendance ran as follows:
“Destro’s Secret”
“Sandbox Magician”
“The Running Board”
“The Mullet Burden”
“Weekend Sex Change”
“Variations On A Cocktail Dress”
“Sugar Coated Sour”
“4th Grade Dropout”
“Proceed With Caution”
“I Love Secret Agents”
“Calculating Infinity”
“Jim Fear”
“Come To Daddy” (Aphex Twin cover)
“Monticello”
“Clip The Apex… Accept Instruction”
“43% Burnt”
As seen above, the very early track “Monticello” received its first playthrough since 1999, while their frequently included cover of Aphex Twin‘s “Come To Daddy” was back in the set. Early vocalist Dimitri Minakakis is fronting the group during this victory lap, which finds guitarist Ben Weinman, bassist Liam Wilson, guitarist James Love, and drummer Billy Rymer all returning as well.
Several more reunion shows for the album are in the cards thus far, those dates include:
06/22 Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Paramount (feat. The Callous Daoboys & Deadguy)
06/23 Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Paramount (feat. Deadguy, Candy, Car Bomb & The Callous Daoboys)
08/06 Lokeren, BEL – Lokerse Feesten
08/24 Chicago, IL – The Salt Shed Outdoors (feat. The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, Trash Talk, Secret Chiefs 3 & No Men)
