While not the rule, Drumeo‘s popular ‘first time’ web series, often tasks musicians from outside the world of metal with tackling a heavier track. That interesting formula of pushing a skilled musician outside of their comfort zone has resulted in some fascinating performances.
This time around, the roles were reversed a bit, as Megadeth, etc. drummer Dirk Verbeuren was again tasked (he previously tackled The Killers‘ “Mr. Brightside“) with coming up with his own parts to Paramore‘s 6x multi-platinum 2007 hit single “Misery Business“.
Verbeuren was unfamiliar with the track in advance and was introduced to it via a version featuring no percussion. You can see what he came up with below:
