Las Vegas, NV-based alternative metal band Five Finger Death Punch have scored a new round of platinum certifications in the United States. First up, the group’s 2015 album “Got Your Six” has newly gone platinum.
Also newly certified platinum in that territory by the RIAA are two versions of the band’s cover of blues musician Kenny Wayne Shepherd‘s “Blue On Black“. Both the standard studio version of that cover and the expanded version featuring guest spots from Shepherd, country star Brantley Gilbert, and Queen guitarist Brian May, have each newly notched up platinum certifications.
While the aforementioned covers were newly certified both gold and platinum on January 18th, “Got Your Six” was previously certified gold on August 08th of 2016. In an interesting turn of events, these covers mark the first time “Blue On Black” has received an RIAA certification, meaning Shepherd will receive plaques for performing on a cover of his own track.
A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit.
