Update: January 22nd, 2024 08:47am:
Black metal outfit Martyrdom have come forward, accepting the blame for the severed head being introduced to the audience. They have since apologized for their actions, stating:
“Hi everyone
we just want to start off by saying we are incredibly sorry to anyone we offended with our actions and gimmicks on stage.
We are a black metal band, and as part of it, we try to add a little bit of imagery and shock value to our set. Unfortunately our acts has gotten carried away and way out of hand, offending many and even harming some.
We want to apologize to any vegans, Muslims, or other minority groups we may have offended, and to anyone who was harmed by our act.
Most importantly we want to apologize to the White Swan, and Harry, the sound guy, specifically. thank you so much white swan for giving us the opportunity to play there.”
Original Story:
A flying severed head of a pig was tossed around the audience of a metal concert in Houston, TX this past Friday night, January 19th. Devoured Trachea were headlining that show, which was held at the White Swan. Accosted, Yung Jitt, Stick! and more were also on the bill for that event. Fan-filmed footage of the head of the unfortunate animal being launched around the crowd has since made its way online below.

The appearance of dead animals and their severed body parts at metal shows isn’t exactly a new occurrence. From Ozzy Osbourne infamously biting the head off a bat thrown onstage, to Mayhem‘s own past onstage exploits with a pig’s head, Slipknot huffing the remains of a dead crow in a jar onstage, or even Watain practically running their own abattoir exhibit in concert; metal and decaying animal parts have enjoyed a long, often disturbing history together.
Californian band Dimebag even weighed in on this latest show, sharing shots off their own past exploits with a pig’s head in concert:
