Jay Petagine, vocalist of NY crossover outfit Mindforce, recently took action against a trend he’s not fond of at hardcore shows. In particular, he went off on stage divers who rush the stage and punch down on the audience, rather than jumping back into the crowd.
The band’s November 19th show at Foufoune Electrique in Montreal, QC saw Petagine encounter this behavior onstage, and summarily physically deal with it by kicking and subsequently pushing the offending audience member back into the pit.
He would later say from the stage after the song:
“You know that fucking move where somebody gets up here and punches everybody in the face singing along, that shit is soft. That shit is soft. Get the fuck in there [points to the pit.]”
Petagine also went on to tweet on the matter afterwards:
Yo the move where the kid gets on stage to be in the video so everybody can see them and they just punch down on ppl off the stage – THAT SHIT IS MAD SOFT
