This past August saw Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian check in with a progress update on the legendary thrash band’s follow-up to their 2016 album, “For All Kings“. In addition to the pandemic and a bit of writers block, scheduling concerns around their drummer Charlie Benante‘s commitments to the reunited Pantera have presented a few challenges on getting this album together.
Per Ian‘s update in August, nine songs had already been laid down with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Avatar) once again behind the boards. At the time, Ian indicated that further sessions were planned. It would appear that those sessions are now winding down, as vocalist Joey Belladonna has been in the studio this month with Ruston laying down his parts.
Belladonna commented recently of that:
“Every take I do has to be full of energy and full of impact, so I’m knocking down every chair in the room to get to the other side, just trying to get something really, really magical.”
A 2024 release date is tentatively expected for the effort, with more details to come.
