Richard Patrick‘s industrial alternative metal outfit Filter will be adding an eighth studio album to their catalog on August 25th. That new opus has been titled “The Algorithm” and will arrive via Golden Robot Records. It was co-produced by Patrick and his frequent collaborator, Brian Virtue.
The song “Obliteration” has been shared alongside word of the album’s official release, complete with a music video created by Atanas Shopski. Speaking of that visual component, Shopski offered:
“This was a great challenge for me. One that pushed me to discover my limits, creatively, artistically, mentally… We decided to go for an element of hope in this world full of despair and show the struggle of the innocent with the merciless surroundings. We follow this girl, who is the last survivor after the obliteration of her world, on her dark adventure in search for other life.”
Patrick said of the album as a whole:
“I’m still complaining politically, but I’m just not so outward. There’s another thing — a friend of mine is drowning from alcoholism, and I talk about him in a couple of the songs, a song called ‘The Drowning‘. But most of it is just me kind of reflecting on humanity and just kind of saying, ‘Are you checking yourself on this? Are you watching how we’re behaving?’ ‘Cause our government and the way we are behaving as a [whole] is just the bitchiest, juvenile shit I’ve ever seen. It’s just ridiculous.”
