Earlier today, June 15th, U.S. President Joe Biden delivered remarks at the White House about his push to do away with ‘junk fees’ often lumped into items and services offered by the likes of Live Nation, Ticketmaster, Seatgeek, Airbnb and more. The so-called ‘junk fees’ are often added on towards the end of a transaction, significantly inflating the price of an item or service beyond its initially offered cost.
Flanked by executives from several of the aforementioned companies at the White House today, President Biden spoke of his push towards ‘all-in pricing’, which he expects will see the partnering companies specify the entire price and cost of an item or service at the beginning of the transaction. He remarked of that initiative:
“The solution is what is called all-pricing. That’s where companies fully disclose their fees upfront, when you start shopping so you’re not surprised at the end when you check in.”
According to President Biden, the companies taking part in the initiative are doing so voluntarily. Biden also remarked that Live Nation expect to implement the process this coming September. President Biden said of that:
“Starting in September Live Nation will automatically list all the prices upfront for all tickets to events at more than 200 venues of its own, benefitting over 30 million customers; and will give customers the option of an all-in price for all other tickets sold on its platform.”
