Project 86 have released a digital download/stream of their cover of Soundgarden‘s “Black Hole Sun” here. The band put out the previously recorded cover in tribute to late Soundgarden, etc. frontman Chris Cornell, who took his own life earlier this week. They said said of the release:
“In honor of the passing of Chris Cornell, we have made our cover of “Fell on Black Days” by Soundgarden available exclusively on our digital store. It cannot be overstated how his talent influenced us over the years…and we hope our cover brings a little more attention to his genius, which helped shaped a generation of music fans and artists.
Just to clarify: this is not a free release because we did not write it. We wrestled with putting this out because we didn’t want to in any way capitalize on his passing, but felt the best way to honor him was to make this song available to everyone who follows us. In addition, a portion of the revenue goes back to Soundgarden.”
“We have decided that in addition to Soundgarden‘s portion of our Fell On Black Days cover, any profits from the release will go the organization of their choosing. Just want to show love and support in any way we can for an artist we loved and the people around him.”
The cover was originally tracked as part of a bonus EP for those who helped crowdfund tProject 86‘s new album.
