‘Metal Hammer‘ magazine will resume next month with a new issue after having been reacquired by their former publishers Future Publishing. The rights to the publication and its parent company, TeamRock, were recently picked up by Future Publishing, who originally published the magazine prior to TeamRock.
Financial woes brought down TeamRock late last year, forcing them to sell ‘Metal Hammer‘ and its sister publications, ‘Classic Rock‘ and ‘Prog‘, as well as the TeamRock digital properties. As most staff were let go just prior to the end of 2016, it remains unclear who is returning for this relaunch of sorts. Friends and fans rallied behind the staff who did lose their jobs however, raising £88,730 for them to date.
Earlier today the following update was shared by Metal Hammer via their Facebook:
“UPDATE:
Many of you will have heard about our mag being bought out by Future Publishing earlier this month. We’re pleased to say that Metal Hammer has officially been given the green light to continue making the biggest and best heavy music magazine in the world. Stay tuned for a very special comeback issue coming next month. It’s going to be epic. Trust us.
In the meantime, the issue we sent out before our previous owners went under is very much onsale right now, so we implore you to go pick it up and show everyone what we can do. We’ll have a post coming out imminently for those that have missed it.
Most importantly, though, we want to say thank you. Thank you for the incredible support you have all shown us in what was an enormously hard and confusing time. Thank you for showing the world what our scene, our family, can do together. Thank you for keeping Hammer’s flame burning.
There’s still a long way to go, many things to work out and fine tune in our next chapter, and our fight is only just beginning, but we wouldn’t be here without you guys, and we promise, as long as this magazine lives and breathes and is given the chance to do what it can do, we will never let you down.
Horns up.”
