Slayer guitarist Kerry King is often known to be outspoken in most facets. Vanyaland spoke with him recently, including that of his take on the racist outburst of Phil Anselmo (Down, ex-Pantera, etc.). The topic is one King has considerable experience with, considering Slayer were dogged by accusations of Nazism/racism for their use of Nazi related imagery and lyrical content, especially early on in their career. Speaking on the matter, King offered:
“Ours is all unwarranted; I’ve said since 1986 if “Angel of Death” was a documentary on History Channel it would probably win awards, but Slayer said it — so they’re racist. That’s just people not knowing what things are about. Now, what Phillip did — I wasn’t there, but of course I’ve seen some of it… [laughs] there’s a line I think he crossed a little bit; yeah, he may not come back from that. It was massive.”
Slayer are currently touring North American with Carcass and Testament, get those dates here.
