Eagles Of Death Metal have now officially spoken of their experience at the group’s ill-fated show at Le Bataclan in Paris, France on November 13th. That show was interrupted by several armed extremist gunmen, who began shooting members of the audience and eventually killed 89 of those in attendance. The band spoke to Vice, recalling the horrifying event in detail, you can watch that below. While all members of the group escaped the show without serious injury, their merch guy Nick Alexander was among those who lost their lives.
During the conversation members of the band and crew emotionally recall being shot at, the confusion that ensued and the carnage they witnessed. Hughes himself made some powerful statements during the conversation, including:
“I can not wait to get back to Paris. I can not wait to play, I want to come back. I want to be the first band to play in Le Bataclan when it opens back up. Because I was there when it went silent for a minute. Our friends went there to see rock n’ roll and died. I want to go back there and live.”
The band also plan to finish the tour, with Josh Homme offering:
“We don’t really have a choice, we have to finish the tour. Not only for ourselves and our fans, not only for Nick Alexander, not only because… but because, this is our way of life. This isn’t political, that’s the beauty of what we get to do, it’s beyond that. It’s the human condition and we’re gonna recruit people too. We’re gonna recruit people to be part of life and be citizens of the earth.”
