The resulting protests that have emerged in the wake of the tragic nightclub fire in Bucharest, Romania that claimed over 30 lives and left hundreds injured over the weekend has had sweeping consequences. Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has resigned, along with his government, amid protests of Ponta being corrupt.

The lax safety standards at the Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest are seen to be an extension of that corruption, of which Ponta has been dogged by accusations of for past shady dealings. You can find more on that over at nytimes.com. The fire itself occurred during Goodbye To Gravity‘s album release show, with ill-advised pyrotechnics thought to have accidentally ignited improper foam insulation.

Due to various safety standards not being upheld, numerous members of the audience were trampled in the ensuing blaze, which also claimed the lives of the bands two guitarists. The club’s three owners are currently facing manslaughter charges for their failure to uphold the safety standards.
