Primus vocalist/bassist Les Claypool has partnered with Z2 Comics for the upcoming release of a new graphic novel titled “Frizzle Fry: Phantoms Of Barrington Hall‘. That book appears to be an embellished retelling of the early days of the band and their time spent at at the student housing co-op Barrington Hall. As Claypool himself put it:
“The thing about Barrington is… I’ve said this many times throughout the years and I’ve written a couple of songs about it… Barrington was like a living entity. It was like a living being. You walked in and you could feel it. That’s why I tried to really emphasize the notion of this place having a pulse because it felt like a living entity.”
Claypool‘s son Cage oversaw the illustrative duties alongside Abimael Hernandez, while Les himself penned the story. An official product listing for the book described it as follows:
”Frizzle Fry: Phantoms of Barrington Hall‘ is an acid-soaked ‘Illustrated storybook for adults,’ that expands Primus’ warped mythology and surreal humor, as it presents a tale allegedly based on the band’s unbelievable experiences during their early years playing shows in Berkeley and the East Bay. Fans may think they know ‘Frizzle Fry‘ from the song and the album of the same name, but this story explodes the band’s universe into a new form of psychedelic life on every page, capturing the off-kilter spirit Primus fans have come to expect, in a way that only Primus can.’
Several editions of the book are being readied, including a limited edition version signed by Claypool that also features a unique vinyl variant of Primus‘ 1990 debut album “Frizzle Fry“. Two of those editions also include “Frizzle Fry“-themed blotter paper for your psychedelic pursuits. Pre-orders can be obtained now via z2comics.com.
