The musical tribute to the late great Ozzy Osbourne that aired during last night’s (September 07th) ‘MTV Video Music Awards‘ didn’t sit well with The Darkness guitarist/vocalist Dan Hawkins. The tribute in question found YUNGBLUD, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, and Adam Wakeman, a veteran of touring with Ozzy Osbourne & Black Sabbath, unite onstage for a medley of three Ozzy hits. The majority of that collective were also among the performers at Osbourne and Black Sabbath‘s farewell show this past July.

Official footage of the tribute from last night’s broadcast is available to stream here. Overnight, Hawkins took to social media to excoriate the aforementioned collective, while also questioning their motives, stating:

“Another nail in the coffin of rock n roll. Cynical, nauseating and more importantly; shit.

Makes me sick how people jump on this shit to further their own careers. #whatabunchofcunts”

Hawkins went on to put a caption of “What a bunch of bellends” over associated screengrabs of YUNGBLUD, Steven Tyler and Ariana Grande‘s viral reaction to the tribute.
