Grindcore band See You Next Tuesday have announced they’ve withdrawn from what was to be Oceano‘s farewell tour in the wake of the admat controversy that engulfed the latter deathcore band last week. Upon this past Wednesday’s (February 19th) reveal of Oceano‘s upcoming farewell tour, an artist came forward with allegations of Oceano seemingly stolen his idea, and altering it without credit or initial payment.
Oceano vocalist Adam Warren would go on to push back against some of the artist’s claims, but it would seem the uproar over the incident ultimately found Oceano wiping their social media accounts. Tonight (February 23rd) saw See You Next Tuesday take to social media to issue the below statement of their decision to exit the bill in light of the admat debacle:
“Half of See You Next Tuesday‘s members are visual artists and rely on art as their sole income. Given the current tour poster situation, it has presented a huge dilemma for us, challenging our morality and standards as artists. We stand against things like AI stealing art from hardworking artists for the profit of the less creative, with zero recognition to the original artists. This may seem like a minor problem to people outside of the art world, but it is seriously damaging to the livelihoods of artists who use their art to support themselves and their families. This situation between Oceano and the original artist of the tour poster, Chris Gallien, although a different type of situation, awkwardly aligns itself with the same reasons we despise AI.
In the end, we as a band have decided we are not comfortable with the current situation and will no longer be part of this tour.
We would like to apologize to everyone who worked on making the tour happen for us and anyone who was looking forward to seeing us live. Lastly, we hope a positive resolution can be reached between all other parties involved.”
The fate of Oceano‘s planned farewell run remains a bit in clear as result of the aforementioned social media scrubbing, with other bands involved also removing mention of the trek from their social media over the weekend.
