Sammy Duet has given an explanation as to what prompted Louisiana sludge metallers Acid Bath to finally reunite in the coming new year. This past October found that surprising announcement being made, with the group being revealed for both next year’s ‘Sick New World‘ festival and the ‘Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival‘. As it stands, these shows will mark the group’s first concerts in 28 years.

Vocalist Dax Riggs, guitarist/vocalist Sammy “Pierre” Duet, and guitarist/vocalist Mike Sanchez will be back for these performances. Newly taking part will be Duet‘s Goatwhore drummer bandmate Zack Simmons, and bassist Alex Bergeron (ex-Agents Of Oblivion, etc.).

As it turns out, the death of former Acid Bath keyboardist Tomas Viator this past spring played a part in the decision to resurrect Acid Bath. Viator played for the group from 1996-1997 and was also known for his work with Disincarnate and more.

Appearing on the Tales From The Riff Podcast, Duet stated of how this reunion came about [transcribed by theprp.com]:

“What happened was ‘Sick New World‘ contacted, my… well, Goatwhore booking agent, Dan Rozenblum, and was like, ‘So what would it take to make this happen?’ And we had recently had a passing of a very good friend of ours that was playing keyboards for us on the ‘Pagan Terrorism Tactics‘ tour.

His name was Tommy Viator — better known as Tomas. And I think that had a big role to play in the situation, to where, you know, a lot of us aren’t going to be around forever, right?

So… I had spoken to Dax about this, when we were talking about getting it back together, and I was like, you know, we need to do this before…. I didn’t put it that way, but I just kind of hinted. And he was like, ‘maybe it’s time.’ And that’s how this whole thing kind of came into play.”

As for future plans from the band, further shows may be in the works, but the band aren’t yet ready to talk about them. In regards to potential new material, Duet clarified that even if this current lineup were to record new material together, they wouldn’t release it under the banner of Acid Bath.
